CUSTOMER: Area Agency on Aging

THE OPPORTUNITY

The nonprofit Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in Southeast Arkansas has a long history of serving the needs of the older population in more than 10 counties. Programs and services have always included home health, transportation, care management and safe, affordable housing. But recently, AAA added a new feature-energy efficiency-to its roster of services at some of its 14 housing complexes.

THE PROJECTS

AAA partnered with the Entergy Arkansas Multifamily Program to complete upgrades that help residents save on monthly energy costs through decreased lighting and water heating costs. Entergy Arkansas field technicians installed energy-saving measures throughout 61 units at Heritage Manor of Stuttgart, Heritage Manor of Dermott and Heritage Manor of Eudora. Measures installed in individual units included up to 10 CFLs that use approximately 75 percent less electricity than traditional incandescent bulbs, energy-efficient showerheads for units with electric water heating, and kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators for units with electric water heating.

THE RESULTS

Through the 266 total CFL upgrades alone, residents and property owners will increase yearly energy savings by up to $1,200 and 13,690 kWh and expected lifetime savings by up to $8,100 and 100,016 kWh. As AAA learned, the Entergy Arkansas Multifamily Program offers benefits for both property owners and tenants. Energy efficiency upgrades like the ones at AAA housing complexes add value to the property and help lower water and sewer costs. At the same time, tenants enjoy decreased energy costs.
