Helped restore power to 13,000 Mississippians affected by
severe thunderstorms
Little Rock, Ark. – After helping to restore power to more than
13,000 Mississippians affected by Saturday’s major thunderstorms, restoration
workers from Entergy Arkansas, Inc. returned home on Tuesday.
Entergy Arkansas sent 75 line workers and support personnel to
help with restoration work in Mississippi, with the crews primarily working in
the Yazoo City area on Sunday and Monday.
“We’re happy that we could pitch in and help get the lights back
on for Mississippians who were affected by Saturday’s severe weather,” said
Brady Aldy, director of Transmission and Distribution Operations, Entergy
Arkansas, Inc. “From all accounts, our Arkansas crews provided a great response
to Mississippi’s request for assistance and worked safely to get the power
restored as quickly as possible. They did a great job but we’re happy to have
them home.”
A series of severe thunderstorms hit central Mississippi and
north Louisiana on Saturday, causing more than 13,000 customer outages in
Mississippi and 4,400 outages in north Louisiana. The same storm also resulted
in about 7,000 Entergy Arkansas customers to lose power on Friday night and
Saturday.
In Yazoo City, Miss., where at least one tornado touched down,
at least four miles of distribution line was completely destroyed and an
estimated 100 poles were broken. Holmes and Attala counties saw another 75
broken poles.
With the help of Entergy crews from Arkansas, as well as
Louisiana, all but a handful of customers had power restored by Tuesday.
Entergy’s utility companies support each other and participate
in mutual assistance with other utility companies across the country. When
Entergy companies need assistance after storms, restoration workers are sent to
help safely restore power to customers.
